Chapter 4
The King who became a
Beast
In chapter 3 King Nebuchadnezzar received a glimpse of what few people get to see. In his own words .."did we not throw three, men, into the fire? I see four men and the fourth one is like the Son of God."
Now he understands, now he is ready to finally give God the glory that He deserves and so the first three verses of chapter four we find the king's confession in his own words.
The King Acknowledges God
(Daniel 4:1-3)
1 Nebuchadnezzar the king to all the peoples, nations, and men of every language that live in all the earth: “May your peace abound!

2 It has seemed good to me to declare the signs and wonders which the Most High God has done for me.

3 “How great are His signs and how mighty are His wonders! His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom And His dominion is from generation to generation.
After all, the king had been through he had not changed his heart, and so ...

The Vision of the Great Tree
-
The Tree is the king
-
You shall be driven away from men
-
You will dwell with the beast in the field.
-
You shall be given grass like the cattle to eat
-
You shall be covered with the dew of heaven
-
You shall be like this for seven periods of time (7 years)
-
Then you shall recognize that the Most High rules over the realm of mankind.
King Nebuchadnezzar had one year to repent and to recognize God as sovereign over the realm of all mankind. Instead, it appears the king forgot about the vision of the tree and its interpretation.
One day as he was walking on the rooftop he began to boast of all he had done and gave the glory and honor of it all to himself. As the words were still in his mouth the prophetic vision and its warning suddenly became real to him.

That very moment that God spoke the judgment came and the king became like the beast of the field and was driven out of the presence of men. Seven years he lived like one the animals in the fields and was given grass to eat.
King Nebuchadnezzar finally came to his senses after seven years of living like the animals in the field. Now he understands, now he is ready to finally give God the glory that He deserves.
